Nepali Culture hits Akron

A few months ago, I got to spend some time wandering the North Hill community in Akron. North Hill has a lively immigrant community and is quietly becoming a cultural hub of unique restaurants and markets.

Check out some of the photos I made of the Nepali community in Akron (for the Akron Beacon Journal's new magazine, Savor Ohio) and check out the story by Ed Meyer in the first issue--it came out today!

Side note: Nepal is in South Asia and is a landlocked country, struggling with high levels of poverty, hunger and trafficking...thus many Nepali citizens move to the U.S.

Dhimal's Mini Market has been open for a little over a year and is run by a Nepali refugee family who settled in Akron over five years ago. Products range from fresh foods, to ceremonial marriage clothing, religious items, hair and cosmetic products.
